he spectacular industrial and economical development of the last century has been achieved in too many occasions at an excessive environmental cost. Water, the most valuable of natural resources, is a paramount example of it. These days sustainable development concepts apply, and the old feeling that the environment in general and the natural resources in particular must be controlled by man, needs to be abandoned. A responsible use, meaning that man can take profit from resources without endangering the future, must preside any water policy. This book contains invited lectures presented by well-know authors to the international Seminar Regional Water Conservation, Water Supply, System Integration held in Valencia (Spain) at the UIMP. The publication provides a general view of the basic water management principles for this 21st century, which are, certainly, very far from those of the 20th century. And since the topics of the Seminar were selected to provide a general overview of the subject for the audience, this publication turns out to be a well-structured general book, rather than just the proceedings of another conference.
